Teaching Collette

Coming this year...

Dead language, or
Managerial-speak:

I wrote a review of Don Watson's seminal book on how our language is being strangled by "Cliches, Weasel Words, and Management-Speak..." DEATH SENTENCES. The book is a must-read for anyone who write or speaks the English language. I recently read a PR piece full of M-S argot that contained "...fulfilling the objectivity of pre-ordained achievement clusters." Here is another example, from Watson's book: "...creating deeper centers of excellence at each institution through greater specialization and achieving implementation success." This incomprehensible rubbish was printed in an official university publication! That makes sense, as the universities are teaching such "newspeak" politically-correct drivel to their students.

"What is written without effort is in general read without pleasure." - Dr. Johnson
